Redact a PDF offline on Windows
PlicoPDF permanently removes sensitive text, images or whole pages from a PDF on your computer. The content is deleted, not just covered with a black box, and the document never leaves your PC.
How to redact a PDF
- Open PlicoPDF and choose Redact.
- Mark what to remove: drag on the page to mark an area, search a text to mark every occurrence (case and accents are ignored), or mark whole pages.
- Review the list of marks and remove any you don't need. Choose the box colour and, if you want, also remove the document information (title, author, subject, keywords and XMP metadata).
- Click Apply redactions. PlicoPDF saves a new PDF; your original file is not changed.
Removed for good, and checked
In the new file the marked content is deleted and replaced by a box. The rest of each page stays exactly as it was. After applying, PlicoPDF checks the result and tells you that nothing is left in the marked areas.
If a page cannot be edited precisely, PlicoPDF converts that page to an image and tells you which pages: their remaining text can then no longer be selected.
Why redact offline
- Private. Contracts, medical records and personal data are redacted on your PC, not on someone else's server.
- Real redaction. Covering text with a shape is not enough: the text is still there underneath. PlicoPDF removes it.
- Free during the public beta, with no account.
