Compress a PDF offline on Windows

Plico makes PDF files smaller on your computer, without uploading them. It recompresses the JPEG images inside the PDF and leaves text and vector graphics untouched, so text stays sharp.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Open Plico and choose Compress.
  2. Choose the PDF.
  3. Pick a level: Low, Balanced (recommended) or Maximum. Optionally tick Convert images to grayscale.
  4. Click Compress. Plico saves a new, smaller file and shows the size before and after.

What to expect

The biggest savings come from PDFs with photos or scanned pages stored as JPEG images. A PDF that contains mostly text or vector drawings may shrink only a little, because Plico does not alter text or vector graphics.

To compress many files at once, use Batch processing: choose files or whole folders, including subfolders, and Plico compresses them one after another without overwriting existing files.

Why compress PDFs offline

  • Private. Payslips, contracts and medical records stay on your PC.
  • No upload of large files. Big scans are compressed locally, not sent over the internet.
  • Free during the public beta, with no account.
